Mobile RTB Platform StrikeAd Expands in US and Asia
COLOGNE -- European mobile advertising technology company StrikeAd recently opened its first office in the United States as the company aims to grow in the mobile market, says Alex Rahaman, CEO of StrikeAd. Beet.TV's correspondent Ashley Swartz caught up with Rahaman in this video interview taped at the DMEXCO conference for a discussion on the mobile advertising ecosystem, from mobile ad networks to exchanges as well as the differences between the US and European mobile markets. Mobile marketing and usage in Europe and Asia has tended to be more advanced than in the US with European markets adopting texting and content before the US, but the US market has caught up and is now pacing ahead of Europe, he explains. He adds that StrikeAd has also opened an office in Singapore as it expands further into Asia. StrikeAd is a mobile advertising demand-side platform, and that sort of real-time buying makes sense for the medium, Rahaman says. "The match of location to what you know about someone is really made for RTB and mobile," he says, adding that mobile phones work best for interactive advertising and intent-based ads.

Michael Bisping kicks ?disrespectful? fan out of UFC 152 workouts
Michael Bisping has a fight with Brian Stann at UFC 152 on Saturday night, but before that, he found a fight with a fan who disrupted his workout on Wednesday. He explained why he threw the fan out of the open workouts to MMA Fighting. (The explanation is at the beginning of the video.)
"I was just trying to do my pads and stuff, and the guy's got no respect. He annoyed my boxing coach more than anything. My boxing coach got a little upset. I could see it in his eyes," Bisping said.
"I was trying to get a workout in, and he's just disrupting the whole thing. He's upsetting my boxing coach, and so I'm like, you gotta go. You gotta go. If you can't have respect ... we're here. We're putting on a display for you guys. If you can't respect it, you have to go outside with the naughty children."
During big fight weeks like this one, the UFC will often offer three free events to fans: open workouts, the press conference and weigh-ins. Open workouts are undoubtedly the best option, because it lets fans get close to fighters to take pictures and see how they train.
The fans and media being there make the workouts more casual than a normal pre-fight training session, but it's still a workout. Fighters are cutting weight and thinking about their bout and should get to do that without being heckled. Even someone like Bisping, who loves to jaw with anyone and everyone, deserves to work out without distraction.

Commentary: Video Metadata and Video Search Mission Critical for Online Video Advertising, Analyst Swartz
To make sense of the massive amounts of online video flooding the broadband pipes, the Internet video business is in desperate need of better context, metadata and video SEO. That's the conclusion of Ashley Swartz, analyst for Beet.TV, in this weekly commentary on the state of the business. By all accounts, the business is on track for another stellar year with $3.1 billion in ad dollars expected to flow to Web video in 2012, coupled with continued investment from giants such as Google and YouTube, Swartz points out. The problem lies in sifting through billions of videos so they are findable and usable. After all, Cisco has said that by 2016 there will be 1.2 million minutes of video flowing through the Web every second. But if audiences can't find videos, then marketers can't either, Swartz warns in her commentary. Being able to track, tag and log video will go a long ways to serving advertiser interests, she predicts. Keep an eye on companies that can handle complex tagging, metadata and visual data, such as Watchwith and Veenome. Tune into Swartz' commentary for insight on how each company is driving key opportunities."If content is king, then context is his queen," Swartz said. "Advertisers and content providers will start looking at optimizing their video tagging." Ashley Swartz is a principal of the New York-based consultancy Furious Minds. She is former head of the interactive television practice at Digitas. She is a regular contributor to Beet.TV
Finding Success in Europe: Digital Media Must Be Customized and Localized
COLOGNE - Altbough the digital media market in Europe is not as evolved as in the United States, the industry is growing fast with publishers commanding extremely high advertising rates, find Ashley Swartz in her wrap-up commentary from the DMEXCO conference. While an attractive prize. Europe requires that media agencies and companies take a highly localized approach to market entry, she says. Swartz is the founder and CEO of digital media consultancy in New York called Furious Minds. She provides commentary regularly to Beet.TV

Jon Jones as a ring model, for some reason (VIDEO)
Michelle Waterson is fighting Lacey Schuckman at the upcoming Invicta FC card, and wanted to win the "Invicta's Got Talent" contest. As directed by the all-female promotion, "The Karate Hottie" made a video promoting her fight, complete with her ace in the hole: UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in a slinky swimsuit.
Jones appears at 1:06, but it's worth watching the whole thing for cameos from coach Greg Jackson and a few other UFC fighters.
Though the UFC banned tiny shorts like those for fights, we'll see if Jones breaks them out for the weigh-ins of UFC 152 on Friday. If you liked Waterson's video, vote for it here.

Videolicious Raises Funds from Amazon, others, for its "PowerPoint" for Video Solution
Videolicious, a Newark-based software developer, has created an app for iOS devices to shoot, edit and narrate videos instantaneously. The company recently raised $1.4 million from Amazon and a group of well-regarded early investors. We interviewed co-founder Matt Singer here at Beet.TV for a demo which was quite impressive. He shares his expectations for the growth of what he calls a sort of "PowerPoint" for video -- a simple, accessible presetation tool. The company sees "knowledge workers" at companies as a primary market. We think this could be a cool solution for video journalism. Andy Plesser

Ben Henderson retains belt in controversial split decision: The UFC 150 Main Card Rundown
When they first met, they went the distance and the judges gave it to Benson Henderson. But this time, when former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and reigning champ Henderson scrapped, it seemed just a little more clear-cut, and it appeared as if "The Answer" had done enough in their five rounds of hard-fought conflict to reclaim that precious belt that was once his. But the judges ? in their infinite wisdom, or lack thereof ? disagreed. That's the story of UFC 150's main event. More after the jump.
- The youngest man on the UFC's roster also just happens to possess a wicked body shot, as TUF veteran Justin Lawrence found out much to his dismay. In the bout between 20-year-old striker Max Holloway and 22-year-old striker Lawrence, there was zero grappling on the ground and tons of lightning-quick exchanges on the feet, with both fighters dinging each other up throughout all of the first and most of the second round. But Holloway was relentless in his pressure, and when he softened Lawrence up with a knee to the body, then followed it up with a pair of hooks to the ribs, Lawrence folded in pain against the cage. The ensuing storm of punches had referee Josh Rosenthal stepping in and making the TKO official at 4:49 of Round 2.
- Buddy Roberts established early on that standing and trading with him would be a very dangerous prospect ? established with hard jabs, crosses and kicks that clearly hurt ? so former middleweight contender Yushin Okami made every effort to make this match a ground war. And he was successful, pulling Roberts down and punishing him with punches from back-mount at the end of the first round, and doing the same early on in the second. The American had no answer for the predicament Okami put him in, and the referee was forced to end it at 3:05 of the round, giving the Japanese fighter the win via TKO.
- For some odd reason, Ed Herman felt that his best chance at beating Jake Shields was to pretend the walls of the Octagon were a giant cheese grater and the former Strikeforce champ was a piece of cheese. That was the uneventful story of Round 1, and Shields avoided being the cheese in Round 2 by taking the TUF runner-up down and trying to methodically jiu-jitsu him to death. The third round was pretty much the same as the second, and though it was the furthest thing from an exciting, crowd-pleasing battle, for Shields, it got the job done. He took the unanimous decision (29-29, 30-27, 30-27) when time ran out.
- It was quick, but damn was it fun. In the lightweight co-main event between former teammates Donald Cerrone and Melvin Guillard, Cerrone came out full of confidence and walked into a left hook that had him stumbling and in grave danger of going to sleep. But even though Guillard pursued him and tried to land the coup de grace, Cerrone recovered ? at least, well enough to clip the "Young Assassin" with a high-kick and finish him with a devastating right. Guillard was out cold at 1:16 of the first round, and while it lasted, this one was a thriller.
- Whenever Henderson and Edgar fight, they're destined to go five rounds. No ifs, ands or buts about it. That's simply what they'll do. Round 1 saw the former champ eating low-kicks to the calf that had him stumbling and falling, and though he scored a takedown in the late seconds of the frame, Edgar was caught in a tight guillotine. He survived, and in Round 2, he dropped Henderson with a right and threatened with a guillotine of his own while sprawling away from the champ's takedown attempt. With Henderson and Edgar picking and choosing their shots and neither really hurting the other, the third was extremely tough to score, but "The Answer" made it a little easier in the fourth by landing a takedown. If we've learned anything from watching these two fight for so many rounds, it's that they'll never make it easy for the judges, and Round 5 was true to form, as both pecked at each other and neither took the definitive lead. However, when it came to scoring, his unerring right hand seemed to be at least racking up points, it did seem like Edgar took the round The end result? A split decision (46-49, 48-47, 48-47) in favor of Henderson, who retained his belt but was showered by boos from a crowd that thought Edgar had deserved the "W."
